I will walk with you hand in hand
Through darkness and delight –
When the wild sea’s waves crash over us,
When the shores gleam clear in sight.
I will walk with you when the bells
Toll out their long despair;
When the birds, like angel-songs,
Chime softly in the air.
I will walk with you to laugh
At the silliness of life;
And when grief beclouds our view
I will hold you through the strife.
I will walk with you where maps fail
And we do not know the way,
When the platitudes fall down
And we stumble as we pray.
I will walk with you and declare
That the promises will hold:
For the One who wrote our days
Holds our tale already told.
I will walk with you when peace,
Light as a summer dawn,
Bathes us in lovely light,
Mends what our hands have torn.
I will walk with you to the end,
When our path climbs from our sight,
And my heart will hold you still
Till there is no more night.
