passionless belief?

This one is an answer to those promoting a purely rational faith:

Those who believe they believe in God but without passion in the heart, without anguish of mind, without uncertainty, without doubt, and even at times without despair, believe only in the idea of God, and not in God himself. Madeleine L'Engle

I started reading "A Swiftly Tilting Planet" again! She's a favorite of mine.

I don't know.
You can say the oposite too this too.

Those who believe in a GOd that is not rational, the punishes the innocent, that destroys worlds just cause he can , Those who belive in a God that needs to be appeased so as not to kill them belive in a MYTH.

THere must be some balance there somewhere. We can't believe in a unrational GOd that is merely passion and response whimiscaly to us and niether can we believe in a purely rational passionles God.

This is comforting to me because right now I am going through a lot of these feelings. I like the quote a lot.

How rational is it that God would love us so much that, in spite of our sin, He would die for us?

Yes, there is a balance, one that is found right in the middle of Yahweh.

God is not a robot, and neither are we. God is love, and love is the ultimate reason, where it all makes sense. God invites us to leave self-centredness behind and enter into his love, because outside of that authentic love-by-faith relationship, our souls wither and die ..
